If you are looking for a quiet escape, the beautiful countryside might just be what you need. That and a glass of Chardonnay. Just off Buffalo and Rochester, away from the roaring waterfalls and the hustle and bustle of the city, lies the enchanting Niagara Wine Trail. Along the lower river, stretching across Niagara, Monroe and Orleans County, you’ll find a series of vineyards that produce world-class wines placing Niagara on the wine map.

The Niagara Wine Trail

Located along the Niagara Escarpment, the region enjoys a unique microclimate comparable to the vineyards of France and Germany. Days are pleasantly cool and long especially during growing season. In fact, The Niagara Wine Trail enjoys the second longest growing season for grapes in New York State. The longer the growing season, the more the fruit builds up fruit esters, enhancing the aroma and taste of the grapes. Combined with the fertile land, this makes the Niagara Wine Trail ideal for producing world-class wines. The region produces the juiciest vinifera grapes, great for making Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Vidal Blanc to name a few.

When To Visit

The Niagara Wine Trail is open for wine tours and tasting trips all year round. Most of the wineries are found along Route 18 and Route 104. The tours are self-guided, this means you have the freedom to choose where to start and stop your wine tasting adventure. There are also scheduled events that you can enjoy by yourself or with a group. You can save on your wine purchases by getting a Vino Visa Passport, this entitles you to wine discounts from 22 wineries and coupons for local restaurants, transportation and more.
